Rehoboth Beach Patrol station

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. — A long-anticipated beach patrol station in Rehoboth Beach is on track to be completed by May 16, according to the latest update from city officials.

Preliminary work on the station began in December 2023 with site preparation and utility installation. The building is located just feet from the beach near Baltimore Avenue.

According to the city, the project is running about $750,000 over budget. Previously, officials considered spreading the cost out over several years rather than two budget cycles, as originally planned.

Locals say the timing couldn’t be better. “People that come during the summertime feel safer because of it being state of the art and being so up high, so that they can really see the beach and everything,” said Sandy Simms of Rehoboth Beach.

Construction crews are pouring flooring and installing siding as the mid-May deadline approaches.
