LEWES, Del. - The Lewes Public Library has named Sandy Ahn as its 2023 Volunteer of the Year.
Ahn can often be found behind the front desk, where she helps library patrons and partners with staff members on special projects. She holds a wide range of skills including library opening, transit processing and locating holds and missing items. She especially enjoys working with patrons to help them locate information, specific books and additional library content.
"Sandy is a true gem and the library is lucky to have her," said Tracy Dietz, the library's volunteer coordinator. "She is always willing to give so much of herself and we appreciate her so much."
Ahn is one of the library's most experienced volunteers and had gone through the library's move to its new building in 2016. Before that, she volunteered at a small library in Pennsylvania where she developed an appreciation for library services. She is a native Delawarean and moved to back to the state, to Lewes, in 2011 when her youngest son graduated from high school. She quickly applied to the Lewes library and looked forward to meeting new people and immersing herself in the community.
"Volunteering at the Lewes Public Library fills me with pride and joy," Ahn said. "Lewes is fortunate to have not only a beautiful library filled with a world of books and knowledge, but also a vibrant community hub offering a diverse array of programming. Being selected as volunteer of the year is a profound honor."
