LEWES, Del. - UnLocke the Light Foundation is expanding its youth mental health support services to Sussex County with the opening of Sean’s House Sussex this fall.
The new Sean’s House will be located at 1307 Savannah Road in Lewes and will provide peer support for people ages 14 to 24. Guests will be able to connect with trained Peer24 Support Specialists who use their lived experiences to help others navigate mental health challenges.
Sean’s House Sussex will follow the peer-support model used at Sean’s House in Newark, with a focus on creating a welcoming environment where young people can be heard, connect with others and find resources, said the nonprofit's website.
The Lewes location is scheduled to be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays.
Ahead of the opening, UnLocke the Light Foundation will hold an Accelerated Peer24 Lead Training Program for people interested in providing peer support at Sean’s House Sussex.
The three-day, in-person program is scheduled for Sept. 11-13. Participants must attend the entire training session to be eligible for a Peer24 Lead role, said Sean's House.
Applicants must be at least 18-years-old, have lived experience with a mental health challenge and a personal recovery journey, and demonstrate a commitment to supporting peers and reducing mental health stigma. The nonprofit said a strong communication, interpersonal and active listening skills are also required.
The foundation said additional details about Sean’s House Sussex will be released in the coming months.
