Severe flooding expected along the coast

DELAWARE - The National Weather Service is now forecasting major and potentially record- breaking flooding along the Delaware Bay.

At Bowers Beach, the forecast flood level is 8.7 feet during Saturday afternoons high tide. The current record is 8.6 feet. This forecasted flood level would surpass the levels observed during Irene and Sandy.

In periods of severe flooding, the NWS recommends extra precautions when navigating flooding.

- Be aware of streams, drainage channels and areas known to flood, so you or your evacuation routes are not cut off.

- Monitor NOAA Weather Radio.

- Avoid driving into water of unknown depth. Moving water can quickly sweep your vehicle away.

- Restrict children from playing in flooded areas.
