MILTON, Del. — Milton Town Council is asking the Delaware Department of Transportation to lower the speed limit from 50 mph to 35 mph along a 1.3-mile stretch of Sand Hill Road between Gravel Hill Road and Harbeson Road near the Granary development.
Town officials said the change was discussed during the Granary annexation process as a way to slow traffic and make the speed limit more consistent with those inside Milton.
The town annexed two parcels totaling about 450 acres in 2022. Construction on the development is underway. Because Sand Hill Road is maintained by the state, Milton cannot lower the speed limit on its own. DelDOT will have to review and approve the request.
Milton Town Council is asking the Delaware Department of Transportation to lower the speed limit from 50 mph to 35 mph along a 1.3-mile stretch of Sand Hill Road between Gravel Hill Road and Shingle Point Road near the Granary development.
Milton local Jim Fry said he supports the proposed reduction but believes enforcement will be key. “I hope they enforce it,” Fry said. “A lot of times, you always say, ‘Where are the police when you need them?’ But I would think that Milton would enforce that. I think it’s a smart move.”
The resolution will now be sent to DelDOT for consideration.
