SOUTH BETHANY, Del. - The town of South Bethany is in talks of possibly lowering the number of parking passes a household can have.
In the summer season only people with parking passes are allowed to park on Ocean Drive, the main street before the beach.
As of now homeowners are able to purchase up to four parking passes, although the town said there has been an issue with there not being enough spaces for all the passes being given out.
The town said an alternative might be lowering the number of passes to three or two per household although they are exploring many options.
One local Suzanne Seltzer said parking in the summer can be dense but still she sees a benefit with changing things up.
"I do think that the number of passes per household is a lot, given the limited space that we have," Seltzer said.
But Seltzer said she thinks there are some alternatives than just reducing the number of passes.
"I would say that if there was an owner's pass for them that is associated with their license plates and then two additional ones for the household that would be better," Seltzer said.
But some like Susan Maddox said the parking problem isn't about the passes.
"The issue is more like the overbuilding and the amount of houses that they're building," Maddox said. "There are so many households, I don't think it really necessarily matters how many they give out the park is going to be full either way."
The town of South Bethany said the next step is the mayor has called upon the planning commission to put together a study to determine how many parking spaces are on ocean drive and from that data they'll move on from there.
