CAMBRIDGE, Md. — Cambridge Police arrested an 18-year-old man following a violent home invasion and assault that happened on Sunday, March 16.
According to police around 3:38 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of Cornish Drive for a reported assault. When officers got to the scene they said they spoke with one of the victims who reported that Taybrion Laquan Wongus, 18, of Cambridge, arrived at the residence, kicked and beat on the door, and forced his way inside.
Once inside, Wongus allegedly assaulted a second victim by punching, kicking, and strangling them. He also reportedly damaged property inside the home. The victim was able to flee to a car, but Wongus followed and continued the assault, preventing the victim from leaving. Police say bystanders intervened and pulled Wongus away from the victim.
Officers say they reviewed footage from city cameras that corroborated the reports. The assault victim later got treatment at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Cambridge.
An arrest warrant was issued, and officers located and arrested Wongus on Monday, March 17, around 9:19 a.m. He was transported to Cambridge Police Department for processing before appearing before a court commissioner. Wongus was held without bond and turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections.
Wongus faces the following charges:
- Home invasion
- First-degree assault
- Second-degree assault
- Two counts of malicious destruction of property
