CAMDEN, Del. - After thousands of baby chicks were mistakenly sent to a Sussex County post office, the First State Animal Center and SPCA announced that they have all found new homes.

According to the shelter, every single one went to a no-kill home, including private individuals and rescue farms after three weeks of screenings and care for the birds.

On April 29, the chicks were shipped from a hatchery in Pennsylvania. They were intended to be delivered across the country, but were discovered on May 2 after someone at the USPS Delaware Processing and Distribution Center. The Delaware Department of Agriculture said 4,000 birds were found dead from being stranded in the heat.

The shelter is still asking for donations to help recoup the revenue lost from other shelter operations, materials, feed and overtime pay.
