Town of Ocean City has public hearing discussing possible air rights for Margaritaville development

OCEAN CITY, Md. - The town of Ocean City had a public hearing tonight to discuss a long standing proposed Margaritaville.

The Margaritaville development is looking to be granted the air rights at the alley on Washington Lane between 13th and 14th streets.

The goal of the development is to build a 230 room hotel and restaurant.

If the air rights are granted the developers agreed to widen the alley and add a bike lane.

Terry McGean, city manager of Ocean City said the improved alley would be helpful for the town.

"So having a wider alley which would allow two vehicles to pass is a benefit to using the bike lanes," McGean said. "Obviously we've been encouraging people for a while now to try to use the alleys instead of being on the Coastal Highway."

McGean also said there is precedent to grant the air rights seeing as they have done it for other local hotels like the Majestic and the Beach Bum Hotel.

Even if air rights are granted, there's many more steps the project would have to go through before any Margaritaville becomes a reality in Ocean City.
