Fuel Spill

LONG NECK, Del.- An overflowing gas tank caused quite the mess in Long Neck Sunday morning.

According to the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, the driver of a grey Scion TC coupe stopped at the Royal Farms off Route 24 and Mount Joy Road to fill its gas tank Sunday morning. However, firefighters say the driver left the car unattended during the process, and as a result, gasoline began to overflow onto the ground, creating a hazardous environment. Firefighters say approximately 20 gallons of gasoline were spilled.

When firefighters arrived, the crew's tasks included fluid stabilization and applying a stay-dry absorbent to contain and neutralize the spilled gasoline. In addition to handling the spill itself, the Delaware State Fire Police managed the flow of cars around the pump.
