SMYRNA, Del. - The Delaware State Police are investigating a deadly hit and run crash that took place in Smyrna on Monday, Oct. 30.

According to police, at approximately 2 a.m., a pickup truck was traveling east on Wheatleys Pond Road, near Bryn-Zion Road in Smyrna. Police say that at the same time, another car was traveling west on Wheatleys Pond Road, approaching the truck.

Police say it is unclear at the time of writing as to which vehicle crossed the centerline and caused the right front side of the truck to impact with the right front side of the car.

According to troopers, after the impact, the truck spun and rolled onto the driver’s side. After coming to rest in the westbound lane, police say the truck became fully engulfed in flames. The car was forced away while also rotating and exited the roadway, hitting a utility pole.

According to police, the driver of the car, a 71-year-old man from Henderson, Md., later identified as David Lister, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Troopers say the driver of the truck ran from the scene of the crash and is unknown at this time.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed this collision to please contact Master Corporal W. Booth by calling 302-698-8451. Troopers say information may also be provided by sending a private Facebook message to the Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
