Northbound Route 1 closed in Dewey Beach

Northbound lanes of traffic on Route 1 were backing up late Saturday morning, as the road closed near Rodney Avenue in Dewey Beach due to an accident involving a pedestrian. 

DEWEY BEACH, Del. - Route 1 northbound was shut down and a man is in serious condition after being hit by a car in Dewey Beach late Saturday morning.

According to Dewey Beach police, a man was hit by a car on Route 1 near Rodney Avenue. He was transported to Beebe Hospital by air in serious condition. The Dewey Beach Police Department is working with Delaware State Police to conduct an investigation into the accident. 

The northbound lanes of Route 1 were closed around 11:30 a.m. due to the accident and its investigation. Southbound Route 1 remained open. Both directions are open as of 4 p.m.
