Lewes city leaders scheduled a public hearing for March 2 on a proposed ordinance that would allow accessory dwelling units, or ADUs, in residential neighborhoods. 

At a Wednesday Lewes Planning Commission meeting, officials will hear from the public about the requirement that property owners must live in one of the dwellings as part of an ADU.

The Milton Planning and Zoning Commission will review proposals at its meeting Tuesday to look at allowing accessory dwelling units and requiring affordable housing in large new developments as part of efforts to expand housing options and affordability.

At a workshop held Wednesday night, the city of Milford discussed their plans for "Accessory Dwelling Units" (ADUs), or tiny homes, within city limits.

Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) now have the attention of the Delaware General Assembly. On Monday, Sen. Russ Huxtable (D - District 6) who represents the Lewes area, introduced an amendment to Delaware's Code related to Housing.

In Sussex County, Delaware, planners are considering zoning updates for accessory dwelling units, emphasizing the need for effective ordinances to alleviate housing shortages without unnecessary restrictions.
