Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings and Maryland's Anthony Brown announced Monday that they are part of 21 state attorneys general suing the Trump Administration over tying the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grants to states’ cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.
The complaint accuses the Office of Management and Budget of unlawfully blocking over $38 million in funds for AmeriCorps programs. Leaders say this is despite a June court order that reinstated hundreds of those programs and barred similar cuts without formal rulemaking.
Delaware DOJ sentences fraudulent Maryland-based home improvement contractor to six months in prison
A Greensboro, Maryland-based home improvement contractor Jeremy Bowen was sentenced to six months in prison on June 20 after being convicted of three counts of felony home improvement fraud according to the Delaware Department of Justice. Bowen plead guilty to the three counts in April following an investigation into multiple offenses involving accepting payments that were never completed.
The lawsuit, filed alongside 15 other attorneys general, targets two recent policy changes by the foundation. The lawsuit seeks a court order blocking both directives, claiming they violate the Administrative Procedure Act and the U.S. Constitution.
In addition to Delaware, the attorneys general of Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, Wisconsin, Vermont, and the District of Columbia.
