Thousands of migrating shorebirds are stopping along the Delaware Bayshore this month as part of an annual journey from South America to Arctic breeding grounds, creating one of the region’s most significant wildlife spectacles.

Horseshoe crabs will migrate to Delmarva beaches from May to July, gathering during evening high tides to lay eggs. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources recommends one local area to witness this ecological event.

The piping plover is listed as a state-endangered species in Delaware by the DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife.
