Sussex County Council voted 5-0 to approve a new forest preservation ordinance requiring developers to retain 30% of existing forest in designated growth areas and 50% in rural areas. The ordinance also sets new forest definitions, replanting requirements and a five-year look-back provision. The rules take effect three months after approval and will not apply to completed applications already on file before the effective date.
