EASTON, Md. - Eleven people were taken to local hospitals for treatment following a school bus crash Monday morning in Easton, according to Maryland State Police.
Shortly before 8 a.m., police responded to the site of a crash in the area of Route 328 and Three Bridges Branch Road. According to a preliminary investigation by police, a car driven by a teenager did not stop at a stop sign at the intersection and ran into the side of a Caroline County Public Schools bus.
Nine children on the bus, the teen driver and the school bus driver were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The severity of their injuries is unconfirmed at the time of writing. Police say parents of the children involved have been contacted. The identity of the teen driver is being withheld at the time of writing.
All lanes on Route 328 were closed for the investigation. Police from multiple departments including the Easton Barrack of Maryland State Police, Caroline County Sheriff's Office, Talbot County Sheriff's Department and personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration were on the scene to assist and manage road closures.
The official cause of the crash remains under investigation. Charges may come, pending the outcome.
