EDEN, Md. - A century-old structure in the 900 block of McGrath Road was destroyed Tuesday afternoon after a fire ripped through the abandoned building.

Worcester County Emergency Services received a 911 call around 2:09 p.m. on April 15 reporting the fire. They say that when firefighters arrived, they found the building fully engulfed in fire and nearly collapsed. Firefighters from Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Company led the response, supported by multiple neighboring departments including Fruitland, Pocomoke City, Parsonsburg, Powellville, Allen and Princess Anne.

Fire crews worked for several hours, using heavy machinery from Worcester County Public Works to extinguish lingering hot spots said the Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office. The structure, which investigators say was over 100-years-old and in a significant state of disrepair, had been unoccupied for years and was deemed a total loss.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The office is asking anyone with information on the fire to contact them at 410-632-5666.
