BETHANY BEACH, Del. - Bethany Beach Books is offering a summer reading program aimed at encouraging literacy among children of all reading levels.

The bookstore has introduced Summer Reading Passports, designed to engage young readers during their school break. The passports are divided into three categories based on reading level: up to first grade, first through fifth grade and sixth grade and above.

Each passport includes reading prompts that allow participants to choose their own books while completing specific tasks, such as reading a graphic novel, a classic or a nonfiction title. Students who submit completed passports by the end of the summer are eligible for prizes, including a chance to win a $250 gift card.

The passports are free and were distributed through schools in the Indian River School District ahead of summer vacation. Additional copies are available at the store in downtown Bethany Beach, which is open daily from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. during the summer.
