REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - For Adam Howard and Bruce Clayton, 200 burpees a day isn’t just a workout, it’s a mission. The two men are currently in the midst of a 100-day fitness challenge to raise money for the Beebe Tunnell Cancer Center in Lewes.

This is the third consecutive year that Howard and Clayton have taken on the intense fitness commitment, which totals 20,000 burpees by the end of the challenge. Last year, the pair raised more than $6,000 for cancer research and support.

Howard has a personal connection to the cause.

"My father was treated there," Howard continued. "Also my mom had breast cancer,” he said.

"This, compared to what other people might be going through, is a piece of cake," Clayton said.

According to the National Cancer Institute, more than 1,600 new cancer cases are diagnosed each year in Sussex County alone. Howard and Clayton hope their efforts inspire awareness and community support.

"Bruce and I are passionate about this," said Howard. "Raising funds for the community is great. The community’s done so much for us, and we just want to give back."

Donations to support the challenge can be made directly to the Beebe Tunnell Cancer Center or in person at The Body Shop Fitness Center in Rehoboth Beach.

"Bringing that check over to the Tunnell Cancer Center makes us feel amazing," Howard added.
