MILTON, Del.- A community fundraising effort to preserve Quayside in Milton has reached its $150,000 goal, allowing the Milton Theatre to move forward with plans to purchase the neighboring property.
The campaign comes after weeks of urgency, as theatre leaders warned the window to acquire the Quayside property was closing. The space sits adjacent to the theatre and has been used as an extension of its programming and community events.
Earlier this month, organizers said they still needed more than $58,000 to reach their goal before a self-imposed end-of-March deadline.
“We’re almost there… we just need a little extra help,” said Jacey Brittingham, the theatre’s director of development at the time, thanking donors for their continued support.
The push gained momentum with major contributions, including a $10,000 donation from Dogfish Head, helping bring the total closer to the finish line.
Brittingham previously said losing the Quayside property would have been a “tragedy,” noting there was no backup plan if the purchase fell through. Theatre leaders instead placed their confidence in the community and local businesses to help close the gap.
