SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. - A proposed bike and pedestrian pathway connecting Slaughter Beach and Milford is sparking mixed reactions from locals.

A public workshop was held in Milford Wednesday afternoon to present the plans for the project and its alternative options.

Milford Planning Director Rob Pierce said the project could benefit both coastal communities by improving access and encouraging outdoor activities. He emphasized the importance of public input in shaping the pathway's design to ensure it meets community needs.

However, some people are opposed to the idea. Richard Clifton, a homeowner near one of the proposed route areas, voiced concerns that the pathway could negatively affect his property value. "The best alternative for me would be to do nothing," Clifton said.

Eric Fannin and Ray Wright, also expressed doubts about the project's feasibility. "I don’t see the room," Fannin said. "It’s better off left alone."

Despite opposition from some, a recent survey shows that 42 percent of locals support the pathway. 10 percent are indifferent. A new online survey is currently open, allowing locals to share their thoughts before further steps are taken. The survey will remain open until April 21st.
