DOVER, Del.--The Aero Club at the Dover Air Force Base has begun its exclusive tradition this holiday season--one that has been in place for the past 15 years--overlooking the city's holiday lights from above.
The cool birds-eye view is only open to individuals with a military ID or those who have access to the base.
Sean Logan, a pilot and flight instructor at the base, said the flight is technically an introductory lesson to flying, particularly for those who want to pursue their pilot license. The Cessna 172 fits a maximum of four people and the weight must not exceed 450 pounds.

These flights, which last abut 45 minutes long, normally overfly the Dover area, going up as far as Smyrna and as far south as Georgetown.
"Legally, we have to be above a thousand feet, normally we go up to about three or four thousand but because it is night time, we can go down to about 1,500," Logan said.
To put that into perspective, when you fly on commercial airplanes, you go up about 30,000 feet.
