HARRINGTON, Del. - The 2022 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony takes place on Friday, February 4th to officially kick off the games. WRDE Morning Co-anchor Mallory Metzner took Co-anchor Charlie Sokaitis and Meteorologist Alex Seymore for a spin in the figure skating realm.Â
Mallory started skating at the Centre Ice Rink at the Delaware State Fair when she was six-years-old. That's where the WRDE Coast TV News Today team went for their lesson.Â
Charlie and Alex say one of their goals was to learn how to stop. Primarily, they didn't want to fall.Â
Mallory proceeded with lessons on how to march across the ice, perform a two-foot spin and stop, elements she says she would have taught when she was a Learn to Skate Coach.
Alex asked how Mallory doesn't get dizzy with all of the spinning that she does on the ice and her answer was that she learned to spot when she first learned how to spin, meaning her eyes focus on one thing each time she passes it in a spin. She says her brain is also just used to it at this point.Â
"Mallory, I don't think we were the best students you ever had but we sure appreciate you showing us a round," Charlie says.
"Thank you, I'm sure that you taught us all of the right things to be able to stop, but circles was the best thing," Alex says.
You can watch the 2022 Winter Olympics on WRDE and the NBC Family of Networks.
Mallory will feature retired figure skaters who have competed in past Olympic Games during WRDE's Olympic Zone coverage.
