SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. - Whether your package is lost in transit or you procrastinated a little too long, you can still have the best present under the tree by midnight. There are plenty of creative solutions you can pull off in a pinch.
If you're too excited to wait, wrap a picture of the gift like one local blogger did last year.
"We were waiting a long time on a Dragon Ball Z jacket, so I printed out a picture of it and then put some Dragon Ball Z cards in the box with it,' said Samantha Hemphill, who has a lifestyle blog called Samantha Styled.
Or, she suggests going for something sentimental that you already have.
"Take something that's personal to you, like maybe a book that you read when you were younger that meant something to you and to write a personal note in it and kind of pass it down as a gift," Hemphill said.
If you do go for something new, skip the Christmas Eve crowds and shop small.
Out of the Box DIY in West Rehoboth Beach has locally made gifts like personalized ornaments and art kits that support the Developing Artists Collaboration (DAC).
"We felt like we really kind of missed the mark this holiday season, which is really disappointing because these big CEOs, they don't need your money," said DAC Founder, Leah Beach. "If you come in here and buy something from us, I'll probably cry."
If all else fails, you can always go for the trusty gift card. But giving one doesn't have to be boring. There are plenty of ways to make it more exciting than an envelope.
Hemphill likes to make experience baskets with easy-to-find items to supplement gift cards.Â
"A movie night basket where you buy popcorn and candy... And maybe they have the popcorn and candy at home on a different night, but you put a gift card to maybe Milford Movies 9," she said.Â
Blooming Boutique also has some solutions.Â
"I had an employer buy all the gloves from us to put the gift cards inside where they put their hands in. Wasn't that a great idea?," said owner Michiko Seto. "You could put that even in the little Snoozie slippers...putting them in a little handbag. We have a little safe RFID little hard case wallets."
Don't give up hope on that package just yet. USPS, Fed-Ex, and UPS all deliver through the end of the day on Christmas Eve. With the exception of USPS Priority Express and critical mail, deliveries will not be made on Christmas Day.Â
