MILFORD, Del.- "I love being a police officer but I find a lot more pride in being a good husband and a good father," TJ Webb said.
Family has been the biggest support to Master Corporal TJ Webb and his road to recovery after he was shot multiple times while issuing a warrant at the Rehoboth Beach Econo Lodge back in December.
But by family, Webb doesn’t only mean people he is related to, but those that suit up next to him.
For Webb’s bravery the day of the shooting and for his months long recovery after, he was awarded the Law Enforcement Purple Heart. He was selected by the American Police Hall of Fame to receive it. Milford Police Chief Kenneth Brown presented the award to him.
"Our staff members join me in commending you for your valor and service," Brown said. "Your dedication to duty without thought of your safety demonstrates your commitment to serve the public as a law enforcement officer."
Webb credits the community and positive attitude for his recovery and his long career.
"I’ve been at this job for 18 years and starting out when I was 21," Webb said. "I wanted to accomplish a lot of things. I can say a purple heart wasn’t one of them. But I am honored to be here to receive it."
Milford Police Sergeant Timothy Maloney says Webb is an all-around person not just giving his all at his job but being a tremendous community member.
"He’s a great officer and he’s a great man in general," Maloney said. "He will do anything for anybody and you know he’s always willing to help people. And just he’s a model citizen and a model police officer."
Recognized for being injured on the job but also cheered on by an entire state as Webb hopes to get back in the line of duty real soon.
