Snow road in DE

GEORGETOWN, Del.--A winter snowstorm welcomed the new year in Delaware Monday morning. In particular, the city of Georgetown was hit pretty hard with snow--its Georgetown Circle almost unrecognizable all covered in white.

It's a winter wonderland for some and a nightmare for others. Locals in Georgetown said regardless, it was much more snow than they anticipated.

"I'm a snow person so, I mean, I don't mind it, I definitely love it more than hot weather," said local middle school teacher Sarah Pappa.

Pappa has lived in her home near the Georgetown Circle for about three years and she said this has got to be the biggest snowstorm she's seen thus far hit the area.

"I usually don't shovel but my fiancé unfortunately was the one that had to work, I'm a teacher so I got off, so I figured I'd do the right thing and shovel for him today," she said.

Outside homes and local businesses, Pappa like many other locals spent significant amount of time outside shoveling the snow.
Including facilities manager for Sussex County Doug Stoakley, who was removing snow from his vehicle when WRDE spotted him around Downtown Georgetown.

"We just stopped for a lunch break and now getting ready to get back out, check on another crew, so I wanted to be able to see where I was going," he said.

Stoakley manages crews that push snow off runways at Delaware Coastal Airport and around county facilities. He said he's not a fan and expected to see a lot less of it today.

"No, I don't really love it, it's just something we have to deal with," he said.

And for those who don't have to, Stoakley suggests staying home--safe and warm.
