Millsboro Bypass under construction

Millsboro Bypass under construction.

MILLSBORO, Del. - DelDOT says the final homestretch of construction for the Millsboro Bypass brings road closures.

The Millsboro Bypass has been under construction for over two years.

The project includes an overpass with aĀ two-lane two an a half mile long road that connects to Route 24 and bridge over Millsboro pond and and the Norfolk Southern Railroad.

According to DelDOT, the goal is to alleviate traffic congestion in the Downtown Millsboro area and provide an alternate route for truck drivers.

A portion of Hollyville Road will be closed beginning Monday, June 16, along with overnight lane closures on Route 24 near Hollyville Road, as part of ongoing construction for the project.

The nightly closure will take place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

DelDOT says this will help bring the entire Millsboro Bypass Project together.

"This allows for the realignment of Hollyville Road, as well as some work on Route 24 as we prepare to tie in the new bypass. So a lot of activity happening as we head into the final stretch of major construction on this project," said C.R. Mcleod,Ā DelDOT's Community Relations Director.

Jake DeBlois lives off of Hollyville Road and isn't too worried about the nightly closures.

"It doesn't really affect us at night. we don't really have to go into town much unless it's during the day. When we come in, we kind of use the other entrance in to that road, so it doesn't really affect us much, but, definitely excited for it to be done," said DeBlois.

Isabelle Joly says she is ready for the roadwork to be over.Ā

"It might help with traffic during the summer time, but I doubt it's going to be a good impact," Joly shared.

The nightly closure will last through mid August according to DelDOT.
