DEWEY BEACH, Del. - On Friday, Dewey Beach town council voted unanimously in favor of an ordinance to amend a chapter of code that would increase the lodging tax in town to 3%. This is the maximum percentage possible for the town to impose.
This tax is for hotels, motels, and house rentals. Town council says part of the tax will help them fund different projects in town.
"This year and probably next year as well, we're devoting some percentage of the lodging tax to the cost of the new town hall. This is an important source of income for the town, but I think we've made the decision to use it productively," says town council.
The new lodging tax goes into effect April of 2024.
