LEWES, Del. - Plans to add 31 homes to the Donovan Smith Manufactured Home Community have drawn mixed reactions in the past from people who live there, who voiced concerns about crowding, affordability, and quality of life.
The Lewes Planning Commission is taking another look at a Conditional Use application from the developer during their meeting Wednesday evening.
The meeting could prompt the scheduling of a continuation of a public hearing.
There are currently 130 total homesites, with 90 that are presently occupied. The site plan shows 1.621 acres of dedicated open space available to all residents for recreation.
Allen Bradley thinks 31 homes won't fit in the community, and he says he's worried about the safety of children in the area with increased traffic.
"I think they need to just stop," said Bradley. "In other words, if you're going to do all that and everything, put an area for the kids to play."
Other people, like Gary Hilton, welcome new neighbors.
"I think that would be a good thing," said Hilton. "There's a lot of folks out there that can't afford housing right now, and I think this is a viable option for them. So, I would say go for it."
