SLAUGHTER BEACH, Del. - The DuPont Nature Center at the Mispillion Harbor Reserve will reopen for the 2025 season on Wednesday, April 2.
The center, managed by DNREC’s Division of Fish and Wildlife, will operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays in April and September, and Tuesdays through Saturdays from May through August. The center is closed from October through March.
Visitors can observe spawning horseshoe crabs and migrating shorebirds, such as the threatened red knot, from the center’s deck overlooking the harbor. Inside, guests can explore exhibits highlighting the environmental and historical significance of the Mispillion Harbor and view saltwater tanks featuring local aquatic species. DNREC says new exhibits have been added this year to offer an even closer look at Delaware Bay’s wildlife.
The center also offers live views of nesting ospreys and harbor wildlife through its osprey cam and Mispillion Harbor cam, accessible online at de.gov/dnc.
DNREC’s DuPont Nature Center is located in Delaware's Bayshore Region at 2992 Lighthouse Road. Admission is free and the center is open to the public.
