FENWICK ISLAND, Del. - Fenwick Island is planning to start a median beautification project for the entry way into town.
Officials in Fenwick Island said they want people to see Fenwick Island as a neighborhood and not just a part of route one Coastal Highway.
The mayor of Fenwick Island, Natalie Magdeburger said they want to make the median more visually pleasing.
The town cites studies that have shown a beautified median might slow drivers down, giving them something to look at and in the process that could help with pedestrian and bicyclist safety.
Some locals have already come up with a large chunk of the funding needed for the project and the town will provide the rest.
Although they are still waiting on approval from DelDot to begin. Some like local Ronnie Pennypacker said he think's the project could be helpful.
"As a bicyclist we don't use the median, we are always on the shoulders," Pennypacker said. "So I would say if it keeps cars over on the median and off the shoulder that'll help everyone."
The town hopes to have the project completed by Spring 2024.
