DELAWARE- As littering continues to be a problem for the environment, people in Lewes are on a mission to keep the beach town looking clean.
Kelly Sheridan got creative and put out this bin on Jolyns Way where they said drivers tend to throw their empty liquor bottles out of the car window.
"It seems to be an epidemic... vodka and fireball are the most popular ones. We just wish people would treat Sussex County a little bit better and really just stop tossing things out of their windows.." said Sheridan.
However littering goes beyond Lewes roadways. According to DelDOT, 50,000 pounds of trash has been collected from Delaware roadways already this year.
Jolyns Way is maintained by DelDOT but it said it relies on people like Sheridan to help.
"It takes all of us. It's something that we're all working toward to try and keep our state, really keep litter off of our roadways," said C.R. McLeod with DelDOT. "The fact that these residents are concerned about it, they're speaking up about it... it's something that we need more of."
If you notice a lot of trash on your street, the form here will add your street name to a list to have the litter cleaned up.
