OCEAN CITY, Md. - One person was arrested after a group of people shot fireworks into the crowd on the Ocean City Boardwalk Friday evening, according to the Ocean City Police Department.

Police say this initially sparked panic among bystanders during Fourth of July celebrations, some of whom reported hearing what they believed were gunshots. However, police confirmed there were no firearm-related injuries and that the loud noises were caused by fireworks, not gunfire.

The identity of the suspect and possible charges have not yet been released.

Ocean City Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
