Hydrant

In addition to improving water clarity, the process is critical for testing water pressure levels and ensuring that all hydrants are operational in case of fire emergencies.

GEORGETOWN, Del.- The Georgetown Water Department will begin flushing the entire municipal water system on Monday, April 21, as part of its annual maintenance program to maintain the town’s 320-plus fire hydrants.

According to the town, hydrant flushing helps remove naturally occurring minerals and sediment that build up in water mains over time. In addition to improving water clarity, the process is critical for testing water pressure levels and ensuring that all hydrants are operational in case of fire emergencies.

The flushing will begin in Ward 1 and affect streets including:

  • Lynch Lane
  • West Way, Charles Way
  • The Meadows Subdivision
  • Old Park Avenue
  • The Circle
  • South Bedford Street
  • Zoar Road
  • Sussex Pines Road
  • East Pine Street
According to the town, during the flushing process, people who live near these areas may temporarily notice discolored water due to harmless silt and air in the pipes. The department recommends running all faucets for a few minutes to clear discoloration.
