ALDI Millsboro location

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- Grocery shopping is going to get a bit easier with the addition of Aldi in Peninsula Crossing Shopping Center. It is expected to go in between Lowe’s and PetSmart.

Millsboro Town Manager Sheldon Hudson says this is just the beginning of this next phase of growth.

"They have a very loyal following from what I can tell," Hudson said. "But the town is still working to add to its list of supermarkets. We’d like to see something in kind of the natural category like maybe a Trader Joe’s or the traditional category like a Safeway."

Also coming to town is Meineke. David Repass owns the Lewes location. He says a second shop would benefit existing customers.

"We do work on several folks from the Millsboro area but you know there’s a lot of people out in Millsboro," Repass said. "The way that its growing, more people into town that we’ll be able to take care of. I’m really excited about that."

Speaking of more people coming, Realtor at Long & Foster Lewes Jordan Garcia says some clients enjoy seeing the influx of businesses.

"With those opportunities, it’s allowing buyers to shift away from the beaches and avoid higher price tags," Garcia said. "And you know people coming from out of the area you know driving three plus hours, driving 20 to 25 minutes to the beach is no problem."

But there are other clients who say traffic and location are deterrents.

"Sitting right there in town, there’s only one way in and one way out, 25 miles per hour," Garcia said. "You’ve got stoplights and stop signs so I have had some clients that will say to me hey I don't want to be west of 113 because I don’t want to have to deal with driving through that traffic every single day.

Aldi is not a done deal just yet. It passed a preliminary approval but still must go through a final approval. Repass says he hopes to be open in Millsboro by the end of the year.
