LEWES, Del. - The Lewes Public Art Committee has narrowed down options for what public art piece will come in the spring to five. The first one pictured above was agreed to be set in motion, but will not make an appearance until 2025.
"It's a bigger project because it does need community involvement," said Heidi Lowe, Chair of the Lewes Public Arts Committee, "She actually works with the community to bring in the fabrics, then she organizes it, and then we would work with different groups to sew."
The other five photos are potential options, but the committee voted most for the street painting and the blue and pink sculpture.
The Dewitt Godfrey sculpture currently in Canalfront Park was originally only set to stay for a few months, but after talking with the artist, Lowe says the sculpture may become permanent.
Visitors like Debby Galla said they are looking forward to the art, no which one is chosen,
"I just know that whatever is decided, it'll be wonderful, and we'll love it, and I'll still come back for sure!"
The next meeting for the Lewes Public Arts Committee is on Oct. 25. Then the committee will discuss which of the five options are available, affordable and overall doable. Lowe said there will be an opportunity for the public to help in the decision making process once logistics like this have been figured out.
