Loose gravel on the road is an issue in Dagsboro

Oftentimes, when trucks are driving with materials in the back, debris falls out and onto the roads.

DAGSBORO, Del. - According to a local in Dagsboro, the town has a problem with loose gravel on the roads. Oftentimes, when trucks are driving with materials in the back, debris falls out and onto the roads.

Tony Pinkovsky has lived in Dagsboro for about five years. For three of those years, Pinkovsky has been battling the gravel situation on the roads. While vehicles could be damaged, gravel on the road is also a safety hazard.

"During bad weather it can be especially dangerous because the gravel makes it easier for cars to slide," explained Pinkovsky.

A possible contributor to this problem is a lack of legislation.

Charles "C.R." McLeod, Director of Communications for DelDOT explained, "While Delaware does not have a formal tarping law, that mandates trucks to have tarps over whatever load that they're carrying, there is a regulation for securing those loads, and if law enforcement does see a vehicle that is spilling materials, they can be cited for that."

Drivers could be fined one hundred dollars if found with materials falling from their trucks. Creating a law that makes it mandatory for trucks drivers to cover materials with a tarp when driving could help to prevent the issue overall.
