Inside the motel room, officers reported finding materials consistent with the manufacturing of methamphetamine.

MILFORD, Del. — A Milford man was arrested after police responded to a trespassing complaint at a motel and discovered materials consistent with methamphetamine production, the Milford Police Department said.

On Saturday, June 7 at 12:53 p.m., officers with the Milford Police Department were dispatched to the Rodeway Inn in the 1000 block of North Walnut Street for a trespassing complaint.

According to the Milford Police Department, Dieter Smith, 35, of Milford, had been expected to vacate his rented room but refused to leave. When officers arrived, officials say Smith became disorderly and began intentionally damaging property inside the room. Police say after being taken into police custody, a search of Smith led to officers locating drug paraphernalia and crack cocaine.

Inside the motel room, officers reported finding materials consistent with the manufacturing of methamphetamine. Police contacted DNREC, which responded to the scene to evaluate the items. DNREC determined the materials had not yet been used to create methamphetamine and disposed of them, authorities said.

According to police, Smith was charged with unlawful operation or attempted operation of a clandestine laboratory (felony), resisting arrest, possession or consumption of a controlled or counterfeit substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief under $1,000, disorderly conduct, and second-degree criminal trespass.

Police say Smith was presented before Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to the Department of Correction on $11,500 secured bail. A preliminary hearing in Kent County Court of Common Pleas is scheduled for a later date.
