SALISBURY, Md.-Â The Salisbury University Chapter of the NAACPÂ feels the university has not taken steps forward in encouraging diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The university's chapter would like to see people take up former positions at the university such as the Director of Multicultural Services. Chapter President of the NAACP Dorien Rogers says workers in the multicultural services office have resigned or retired and some positions have not been filled and that is limiting voices to just two full time staff members. University officials say they are looking to hire qualified candidates but the interest is not there.
"That led to structural inequity which led to again more work being placed on a few staff members which then those staff members left," Rogers said. "But in addition to that it led to the result of our Powerful Connections Program being an abysmal."
Chief of Staff to the President Eli Modlin says they are looking to hire qualified candidates but like many companies are struggling to find people to take up the positions.
"It's critical that we fill the role that are vacant in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion," Modlin said. "But with that said we are not going to allow vacancies to affect our progress and our attention to these matters."
A letter was sent to SU President Charles Wight at about 3 p.m. on Friday. Modlin added that the university will continue to hear student input on staffing and what their ideas are on improving diversity and inclusion on campus.
