MILLSBORO, Del. - A 46-year-old man is behind bars after Delaware State Police say he killed a 75-year-old relative during a violent altercation inside a Millsboro home.

Troopers responded around 6 p.m. on June 15, to the 22000 block of Phillips Hill Road after a concerned family member requested a welfare check. The woman had not been heard from in several days. When officers arrived, they found her unresponsive on the couch. Emergency Medical Services confirmed she was dead at the scene.

Daniel Steele, who was inside the home at the time, was taken into custody without incident. Investigators say Steele assaulted the victim during a confrontation and did not call for help after she lost consciousness.

He was transported to Troop 4, charged with first-degree murder, and arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7. Steele is currently being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on a $1 million cash bond.
