MILLSBORO, Del. - According to the town of Millsboro, it's police department is receiving about $39,421 dollars in grant money, of which the department is allocating towards different projects.
The department says a new headquarters on Ellis St. and Railroad Ave. is currently under construction, and expected to be ready for use in January of 2024. An antenna will be built with that new building in order to connect to three surveillance cameras currently placed next to businesses on Main St. downtown. The department expects the antenna to be operational by January of 2024 as well.
Although a lot of change is coming, business owners say the cameras are working well to keep their shops and customers safe, and believe they will continue to do so.
"They're presence is known in town. You may think they're hidden away but they're out there," says Charlene Truitt of Truitt's Carpet Services.
Manager of Dollar General on Main St. Janet Blackburn concurs.
"I have a good relationship with them [police]. Putting those cameras up...it was wonderful and I think it's been a great asset to the town," says Blackburn.
