Cruisin Ocean City 2024

Speed limits will be reduced, fines for traffic violations will increase and some offenses could lead to arrest. (2024)

OCEAN CITY, Md.- Ocean City is stepping up safety measures ahead of the popular Cruisin' Ocean City event, as thousands of car enthusiasts are expected in town.

From Tuesday, April 29, through Sunday, May 4, Ocean City will be designated as a Special Event Zone. Speed limits will be reduced, fines for traffic violations will increase and some offenses could lead to arrest.

Police from Ocean City, Maryland State Police, and the Worcester County Sheriff's Office will have an increased presence throughout the week. Officials are urging drivers and visitors to expect heavy traffic and possible changes to normal patterns.

The town has also approved Resolution 2025-10, which enacts enhanced parking rates and penalties from May 1-4. Parking fines will be higher for violations like parking near fire hydrants, red curbs, sidewalks and in no-parking zones.

Officials are asking spectators to avoid blocking sidewalks and not encourage dangerous behavior like tire spinning or burnouts. Both drivers and spectators could face penalties.

With large crowds expected, pedestrians are encouraged to use crosswalks, obey signals and make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
