Efforts to enhance signage along the Ocean City Boardwalk are progressing.

OCEAN CITY, Md. - Efforts to enhance signage along the Ocean City Boardwalk are progressing, with the town council set to review the latest updates to the master plan during a council meeting Tuesday.

In February, the Ocean City Council discussed initial design concepts from consultant Sky Design.  The updated signage concept, still in the discussion phase, introduces a new color scheme aimed at helping visitors better navigate the Boardwalk.

Signs

Proposed updates feature green and pink signs for rules and regulations, and blue and yellow signs to provide general information, such as restroom locations. (Sky Design)

Under the proposal, blue and yellow signs would mark informational spots, such as kiosks with maps to show visitors their current location. Green and pink signs would be used to highlight rules and regulations, detailing what is and is not permitted along the Boardwalk.

Local reaction to the early designs has been mixed. John Groncki said the informational improvements would be helpful, noting, "Informationally speaking, it'll be a good idea." However, he expressed skepticism about the proposed rules signage, adding, "The do's and don'ts, I really don't think it'll matter much. They're pretty much ignored, no matter what color or design they come up with."

Brittney Horseman, who grew up in Ocean City, said she understands why some might want to keep the existing signage, but also sees the benefit of the changes. "I really like the nostalgic signs that have been here for so long," she said. "But I think it's nice to give people an idea of what they can and cannot do in certain areas if they've never been here before."

The project’s cost and timeline have yet to be determined. According to the presentation set for Tuesday, the goal of the proposed updates is to make the Boardwalk experience more accessible and encourage visitors to explore more of what Ocean City has to offer.
