PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - A large chicken house was heavily damaged by fire late Friday night in Somerset County, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The fire was reported around 9:45 p.m. on Friday, April 25, at a property in the 31000 block of Mitchell Road in Princess Anne. A passerby spotted the flames and called for help.
Fire crews arrived to find a 50-by-500-foot metal-framed chicken house on fire. The building, was in the process of being cleaned and was empty at the time. No animals were inside, and no injuries were reported.
An estimated $150,000 in structural damage and $20,000 in content loss was reported. The Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Company responded and had the fire under control within 45 minutes.
The cause of the fire and where it started remain under investigation. No charges have been filed.
