Proposed hotel adds to long list of development in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Del.- A new hotel has been added to the long list of proposed development in Georgetown.

At its Sept. 20 meeting, the Georgetown Planning Commission voted to approve the preliminary site plans for a Holiday Inn Express hotel at the intersection of Route 9 and Little Street. The hotel is planned to be four stories tall and have 85 rooms. It plans to take up about 11 acres of land and have over 100 parking spots.

There has been a string of development going on in Georgetown over the last several years, including several housing developments and a Wawa right in the center of town.

The developer of the Holiday Inn Express hotel, John Tekmen, said it won't be the last area he looks into developing in Sussex County.

"We hope to build a quality project, something that benefits the town of Georgetown and Sussex County. We plan on doing more hotel projects in the area along with other things. You know, that's what we do," Tekmen said.

There are still several hurdles the hotel must clear before it is approved to break ground.
