REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Next week city officials in Rehoboth Beach will discuss the possibility of combining the weekday and weekend parking permits into one. This idea was proposed by the Rehoboth Beach Parking Department. Currently, the cost of weekday daily permits is 15 dollars, and the weekend daily parking permits is 20 dollars. The parking department proposed consolidating the two permits into one, and charge the same price for permits, regardless if it is for the weekend or weekdays. It is unclear what the price will be for the permit if the city moves forward with combing the two into one pass.
Some people in the area think this is a good move.
"I think it's a good idea to make it one permit, and i think it will probably make the sales of the permits go better too," explained Georg Yaksic, who works at L.E.H. Soap in Rehoboth Beach.
Another employee who works in downtown Rehoboth Beach says it's tough for some employees to get enough passes to make sure their workers can park without being ticketed.
"There's multiple employees that work in each shop and most of the shops are small businesses, like we only make X amount of profit in each location, and having to spend some of our profit on parking passes for each of our employees, its just not the best system," explained Cora Halfter, who works at Top It Off.
Rehoboth Beach officials will talk about this proposal on Tuesday, January 9th at the Mayors and Commissioners Special Meeting.
