Delaware Receives Funding For Water Quality Testing

DOVER, Del. - Delawareans have an opportunity to shape the future of clean water initiatives in the state. A 15-day public input period, commencing on January 3rd, invites individuals to contribute their perspectives on how the Delaware Clean Water Trust can enhance water quality across the state. This invitation coincides with the finalization of the Strategic Plan and Annual Report by the Delaware Clean Water Trust Oversight Committee.

The Delaware Clean Water Trust Oversight Committee, established under the Clean Water for Delaware Act, plays a pivotal role in guiding the state's clean water efforts. Their responsibilities include advising the Governor and the General Assembly, monitoring Clean Water Trust funding and financial matters, and publishing annual reports and strategic plans focused on clean water.

At the core of these initiatives lies the Clean Water Trust Account, a financial reservoir that supports various clean water endeavors. The account encompasses bond appropriations for clean water, the Clean Water State Revolving Fund, the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, and the Resource, Conservation, and Development funds designed for water quality and water-related projects. This financial backbone plays an instrumental role in financing projects dedicated to improving water quality throughout Delaware.

The public input period, spanning 15 days, provides a valuable platform for residents to voice their opinions and offer suggestions. These contributions will be taken into account for future updates to the Strategic Plan and Annual Reports. Considering the extensive reach of Clean Water Trust funding, which includes infrastructure development, waterway management, and environmental initiatives, public input is a crucial element in shaping the trust's long-term priorities and strategies.

Notably, the Clean Water Trust is actively collaborating with Governor Carney's Clean Water Initiative for Underserved Communities. This partnership is a significant component of the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control's (DNREC) commitment to environmental justice and its efforts to assist low-income, disadvantaged, and underserved communities in the state.

For those eager to get involved, participation is straightforward. Visit de.gov/cwi, where you can access the 2023-2027 Strategic Plan, the FY22 Annual Report, and the input form. Public engagement and ideas are highly encouraged as they will have a meaningful impact on the future directions of the Clean Water Trust.
