Parts of a building are ripped apart after a storm.

The Red Cross said it will continue working with local partners in the coming days and weeks to provide additional recovery resources to people affected by the severe weather.

DOVER, Del. - The Red Cross is providing assistance to people affected by severe weather that struck Dover on Thursday evening.

Trained Red Cross disaster volunteers responded to help people displaced by the storm, according to the organization. The group provides support including: financial assistance, emotional and mental health services, comfort kits, blankets, food, water and help replacing medications and other essential items that were lost.

The Red Cross said it will continue working with local partners in the coming days and weeks to provide additional recovery resources to people affected by the severe weather.

The organization responds to home fires and other disasters throughout the DMV region an average of 100 times each month. All Red Cross disaster assistance is free. People with disaster-related needs can call 1-800-RED-CROSS.

AAA tells those affected by the damage of the storm to take photographs of damage, contact the insurance company as soon as possible and have vehicles inspected before driving them again, save any receipts related to the damage that prove action taken before an adjuster can come.
