REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - The Rehoboth Beach Public Library has named its new mascot: Clawdia the Crab, a design created by Rehoboth Elementary School student Mia Barnes.
The mascot was chosen through a school-wide contest held just before summer break. Students were asked to submit drawings of ocean-themed mascots. Hundreds of entries were submitted, and 10 finalists were selected by the Rehoboth Art League, with two designs chosen from each grade. A panel of librarians and a representative from the Village Improvement Association picked the winner.

The library’s director, Lauren McCauley, announced Barnes as the winning artist during a recent ceremony. Each finalist received a book and had their photo taken in the school lobby. All 10 finalist designs will be on display at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library through June.
We are incredibly proud of Mia for using her creativity and artistic talent to make such a meaningful contribution to our community,” said Dr. Doris Person, Principal of Rehoboth Elementary School.
The library plans to include Clawdia in newsletters and building decor following upcoming renovations. A future contest will be held for Beacon Middle School students to design a mascot for a second library planned on Warrington Road.
